Rumers about Apple’s new tablet computers had been around for quite a while and had been denied by Apple like it always did before new product releases.
We have all prepared that an Apple tablet would just be something more like an “iPhone on steroids” and we recently estimated the release date to be April 2010. Not to anybody’s surprise, the “iPhone on steroids” has proved to be the best description of the new Apple Tablet, and it will indeed be released in April 2010.
Finally, we knew this thing will be called iPad, to separate itself from tablet computers such as Microsoft’s new Slate PC category. Ironically, it was soon reported that IPad was already patented by Fujitsu for its WinCE based device in 2002. (please see http://www.currentdirections.com/hardware/fujitsu/ipad100.html for the details about Fujitsu iPad).
Regardless of the dispute on the name iPad, Apple iPad was finally unveiled by Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs last week.
Steve Jobs was quite confident that the new born iPad, will have many reasons to beat both smartphones and laptops easily. This is claimed to be another revolution following its elder brother and sister, iPod and iPhone. It will completely change the horizon of the world of personal computers. As consumers we really welcome any good revolutions that can improve our lifestyle and most of us have place our hope on Apple.
The expectations on this under-development product had been going higer and higher and peak to the top last week. However, after the preview event, some of us have been really disappointed since then. Tons of negative critisism have flooded blogs, forums and the whole cyberspace. People are making fun on it showcasing their exceptional creativities.
In Australia, iPad is compared to Blu-Tack, a commonly used re-usable adhesive. The only advantage iPad has over Blu-Tack is that it’s sold in Apple’s stores! What’s a mean comparison! (visit Blue-tack official website at http://www.blutack.com/ )
There’s also a photoshopped picture showing that Steve Jobs was showing off the new iPad, while the iPad actually was 4 iPhones sticked together by tapes.
Well, my only hope is that the new iPad will be sold cheaper than the price of four iPhones, that will certainly make it a better deal.
